I’ve been asked several times to do a cold-weather version of this post so here’s the skincare part. Of course, everybody’s skin is different so this isn’t an end-all, be-all prescription for Great Skin or anything. Mine tends to be dry/combination, and in the winter gets really really dry.

Murad Clarifying Cleanser is my baby. Wash your face every night before you go to sleep - never go to bed with makeup on ever ever ever. I adhere to this rule even when I’m drunk and sleepy and use Sephora Supreme Cleansing Foam because you just rub it on your face and rinse it off (don’t use both of these, obviously - just one or the other). Murad Clarifying Toner is also my baby. It has witch hazel in it, and while I’m not really sure what that is, it sounds like a potion and makes my skin feel tingly and clean.
I used to use Philosophy’s Hope in a Jar moisturizer - which I highly recommend, but I switched to Miracle Worker, an anti-aging moisturizer, because I want the skin I had when I was 12. But really it hydrates a lot better. Whatever moisturizer you use, don’t forget to apply it to your neck/under your chin so you don’t have weird droopy turkey chin when your old. Unless you don’t mind weird droopy turkey chin, I guess.
Jurlique Rosewater Balancing Mist is just nice for your face. It hydrates, even over makeup, tones and makes your skin smell very nice. Rosewater anything is A+ for your skin, not just your face. Also can I say again that it smells very very nice. To actually hydrate in the morning though I use Shiseido Day Moisture Protection SPF 15+ because even though it’s cold my skin hates the sun. Hates it. Also skin cancer runs in my family, and so I’m kind of a pansy for things with any sort of SPF.
Dior Crème de Rose Smoothing Plumping Lip Balm is probably the best thing I’ve discovered recently. It’s hydrating, plumping, smells nice, etc. Wear it under a lip color or by itself and have baby lips. Similarly Givenchy Hydra Sparkling Magic Cheek & Lip Balm is also the babest. It has “sparkling” and “magic” in the name so what else can I even say. My favorite is that it’s a cheek and lip balm, meaning I don’t have to pick up two separate products to accomplish two different tasks. The color adjusts to your skin’s humidity, and always makes a nice sheer rosy color that’s perfect for winter. And I love that it only takes a teeny tiny dab to do the job.
Lastly, wearing Carmex (namely Carmex - I don’t mean just generic drugstore lipbalm) to bed always helps with dry skin. You wake up with soft lips that aren’t weird and hard and crusty and make you feel gross when you try to cover them with lipstick.

I guess I’ll do actual makeup and other skin-related things later. My hand’s asleep.
